The Dilemma

Today I have been struck by a dilemma.......................Its not a great big one in the grand scheme of things but even so its still a dilemma to me.

In exactly 8 days The Whirlwind as he is now known will be turning 13, my problem is that he is no longer a "Whirlwind" and more of a..............................Well.....................How can I put this....................................A SLOTH.

There is no other way of describing him I'm afraid, he has gone from being a fast moving, impulsive, never sitting still, into a everything kind of kid to a calm, lazy docile, sit on his bottom, lay in bed until midday kind of Teenager. I am fully well aware that this comes with the territory of becoming a Teen but his blog name somehow just doesn't fit him any more.

I thought long and hard about calling him The Male Teen but as I already have A Female Teen it was all a bit of a mouthful and quite frankly a bit long to type each time I mentioned either of them.

With that in mind I have decided to rename them.....................Yes.................Them.....................They are both going to have brand new Blog Names.

Now you see my dilemma......................................What on earth do I call them (I could think of many at times but nothing I could put in print). I have come to the conclusion that seeing as you are the ones that have to endure read my rants and ramblings that it should be a joint decision on what I call them. Obviously I will have to consult the pair of them too (this happens when they are old enough to refuse to be blogged about).

I have come up with 3 names for each of them and am going to see which ones are the most liked. Underneath I have given a brief description of each Teen and their 3 suggested names. Comment below to cast your vote..............................................

The Female Teenager :- Funny, fashionista, beautiful (I'm biased), studying Drama A 'Level, desperate to be on the stage., opinionated, could replace Google one day, sensitive, caring and lastly super and I mean super organised.

Suggested Names :-    The Diva
                                 HRH
                                 Miss Priss

The Male Teen Formally known as The Whirlwind :- Funny, not interested in fashion, flicks his hair like Justin Beiber, hates homework, obsessed with Xbox, has more money than any of us, knows hundreds of random facts about everything, has been with his "girlfriend" for 5 months, caring, emotional and lastly can sleep for England and any other country come to think of it.

Suggested Names :-    Sparky (on account of his love of electrics)
                                 Romeo
                                 Rip Van (as in Winkle)

So, there we go..................................Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated and met with huge thanks.

I will announce the new names next week ready for when I suddenly have 2....................Yes...........................2 Teenagers under one roof.............................Arghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!.....................More Gin may be needed.

My 5 Top Gadgets From The 70's

The Teenager laughed as I told her how we used to tape the Top 40 charts using a state of the art Boom Box, I explained how difficult it was to try and press stop just at the right time so you didn't have the presenters voice on your mix tape.
This is me aged 4 rocking the Roll Neck look.

This got me thinking............I will admit, this did hurt a bit........................To how different gadgets were back in the 70's to now.

Here's my Top 5..................................................................................

1. The TV :- 70's television sets were 6ft high and 6ft wide and took up most of your lounge, in fact ours was so big I used to have my dinner on the top sometimes when no one was looking. There was no remote control and you actually had to get up off your bum to change channels....Or.....Get someone else to do it. These days they are just as big but wafer thin and have many functions as well as 3D screens which I will be honest and say "I just don't get".

2. Mobile Phones :- Well, to be honest we didn't have them back in the 70's and just relied on luck that nothing ever happened to us whilst we were out playing all day. I can remember my mum just telling me to be back before it got dark......................................How trusting was she................Little did she know that we built fires in the woods, jumped over streams and built camps using other peoples rubbish. These days my kids have to text me when they reach the end of the path..................Extreme Parenting.........

3. The Walkman :- I remember it well, I loved mine so much and thought I looked like someone from Fame as I strutted in my legwarmers and lycra with this giant brick like contraption attached to my Boogie Belt and huge headphones cello taped across my head. Todays portable stereos are somewhat smaller and thinner, the downside to this is you can pretty much loose them anywhere. I would of been amazed of you could loose a Walkman.....Trust me, I tried when a newer more swishy one came out.

4. Video Players :- Back then it was the good old Betamax System which was the size of a shed and made the most annoying noise when you ejected the tape. We knew we had made it when we purchased a VHS and used the Betamax as a coffee table instead. Now we have the DVD player built into the TV with no wires or anything.

5. Sat Nav :- Was in fact your Dad back then with a map and you Mum yelling at him to ask someone directions.........

So, there we go my top 5 favourite gadgets ever. These kids don't know how lucky they have it do they? Mind you I suppose back then we all thought we had it good too.....................Little did we know what was being invented right under our noses.

Keep It Real Folks
Peace Out

Pull Over.....

Picture the scene...........There I am in my car sitting at the traffic lights when suddenly a tap on the window sounds in my ears........I turn to the right only to see a policeman in the next car leaning out of the passenger window...................I don't quite know what went through my mind but I completely ignored him and turned back to face the front.......................Another knock, this time a bit louder.........................."Change, change, change" I wished the traffic lights. But no such luck.......................................I put the window down and smiled at him.......................

"Hello" he said
"Hello" I replied
"Are you on your phone"? He enquired
"No" I answered
"Who are you talking too then"? He now said
"Errrr...........................My dog" I replied looking slightly sheepish.

It was at this point he told me to find an available spot and pull over............................OH MY GOD I thought as panic flashed through my head. "Pull Over"......"Safe Spot"........I am crap at parking and could possibly drive for hours before I found what I thought was a "Safe Spot".

I could just see the headlines now......."A housewife from Sussex is involved in a high (well low) speed chase with the police as she refuses to pull over. Police are now setting up a stinger to stop this crazy woman. The public has been warned to stay away from the area until this situation is under control".........

After a few minutes I found a safe spot (a lay by) and pulled in. The policeman slowly got out of his car and walked up to my window.

"Hello again" he said whilst looking very stern
"Hello again" I replied worrying that I looked hugely suspicious
"So......You were talking to your dog then were you"?
"Yes...................I was.................I promise"

Just as I was about to get my phone out of my bag to prove I wasn't on it my crazy Spaniel (who I had been chatting away too) popped his head through the back of the seat "WOOOFFFF" he barked happily at the Policeman......................................."Well, well hello" said the now smiling policeman. After a few minutes of chatting about how nice it was to see a dog wearing a safety harness in the back of the car (not the front) he left me in peace and told me to drive safely.

To be honest I was relived he hadn't locked me up for talking to the dog. I sat for a while and smiled.....................A big smile............Then a giggle.....................Its a good job that dogs cant talk isn't it...................I can only imagine the Policeman's face if the dog had told him that I had just promised to put him in the front seat once we reached the petrol station.............................Whoooopppsssss !!!!!

Stay Safe Folks

Nobody Said It Was Easy

I watched in awe as The Teenager sat amongst her study cards jotting down notes whilst ferreting through her books. Although it looked like hard work I think she actually enjoys it..........."Nobody said A 'Levels were easy Mum" she said to me as I continued to watch her, "You should try it.....A course or something" she whispered......"ME" I screamed "AS IF"............................................

Her words stuck in my head for days, I am ashamed to admit that school for me was just one big stage and if the day was fun and I made people laugh then I was happy and considered my education had gone well that particular day. I left school with  5 CSE's and 1 O' Level (I have no idea how I managed it but I did, albeit with very low grades but passes never the less).

I once wrote a blog about my English teacher who had told me that I would never amount to much unless it involved mimicking famous people or making a general fool out of myself. She laughed in my face when I told her I wanted to be a writer and almost fell off her chair when I expressed a need to write for a newspaper................................................................Need less to say she wasn't my favourite teacher.

Anyway, I have digressed......... With The Teens words fresh in my mind I did something rather amazing...........................................I signed up for a home learning course.........................I know right............................GET ME.

There were hundreds of courses available but I settled on something that has become a bit of a passion of mine and something I'm not bad at.........I am studying to get a Diploma (A DIPLOMA.......ME......WITH A DIPLOMA) in Web Design. I am sure most of us have all designed, struggled and clapped in delight at our own Blog Pages and I have even sometimes wondered how on earth I have managed to do something. A friend recently asked me how I had done something on my Face book Page and I had to be completely honest and tell her I had no clue and that it had just kind of happened.

So, there we go..................................I am officially studying.................................Just like The Teenager I find myself surrounded by study cards, books (really thick ones), folders, 2 laptops open on different sites and many resources. I am not going to lie and say that I am finding it easy because I am not and it is far more involved than I ever imagined. I have struggled to get a schedule in place and even found myself last week drinking too much coffee, eating too many biscuits and finding it hard to concentrate thus resulting in making an assault course for the dog using my text books and folders.

Not The Real One....I Promise.
The Teen has mocked me up a time table and is finding it hysterical that I am studying alongside her. But.....................................................I am loving it..........................Every blooming minute of it............................................I feel like my brain is loving it too and for the first time in ages I am sleeping properly.

Will I ever be the worlds best Web Designer???.............................I doubt it. But, I can tell you something.............................I am going to have a bloody good go at proving that English teacher wrong......................................................

What's The Story

With the weather being......Well........A bit rubbish I thought this picture might make you all feel warmer and more relaxed. It was taken in Cyprus 2 years ago and I was sitting waiting for the rest of the family to appear from their swim. I think if I can remember I was having a cocktail at the time and contemplating how I could get away with staying there all night instead of going into the hot city centre for an ice cream...............I love how a photo can evoke so many memories of happy times.

I'm linking up with the gorgeous Charly over at PODcastdove.com. Her What's The Story linky is one of the best ones out there and gives me a chance to show off a photo new or old that has a story attached to it.
