Are you lucky enough to have a husband that can turn his hands to anything and everything DIY related.....I wish I could say that I do but unfortunately this is not the case. Now don't get me wrong there isn't much Mr DG isn't good at but DIY is just not one of them. He has all the gear but no idea, I wonder if every man has a stash of electrical equipment hidden away just ready and waiting for that special home décor job to pop up. Mr DG has an extensive array of gadgets including a drill (which he never has the right bit for), a work bench (which is still in the box) and a Sander (that has never sanded so much as a toe nail)...................
As you will all know we recently had a new shower room fitted and the bathroom company took care of absolutely everything..............There really was nothing for Mr DG to do but he just cant leave it alone.............Last Sunday morning just as it was about to be finished the following day he decided to give the 3 little holes that had been filled a bit of a sanding down just to "give them a hand" he informed me. Unbeknown to me he had gone into the loft and retrieved the sander machine that he had insisted on buying during a DIY store trip. Suddenly our peaceful Sunday was shattered as the sounds of the sander rang out throughout the house..................................................................
Then as quick as it started....................It stopped.......................I gingerly walked to the bottom of the stairs almost not daring to look up..........................Then in a cloud of smoke resembling Stars In Their Eyes Mr DG appeared....."Tonight Matthew I'm going to be Shirley Bassey" he joked as he coughed and spluttered. What had taken 3 minutes had created more dust than the builders had in a week.
I cant repeat the words that left my mouth but needless to say he packed up pretty quickly and shoved the sander back in the loft...................................
The week before this little episode he managed to cut straight through the wire of our hedge trimmers and nearly killed himself. And don't talk to me about the mirror over the fireplace (Just for the record, its not bloody straight).
Why oh why does he think he can do it....................................He cant.....................But I don't hold it against him. I'm no good at cooking but nobody dislikes me for it (unless I have given you food poisoning then in that case I'm sorry). I keep telling him that we have reached a certain point in our lives where we can get someone in to do all the decorating and little DIY jobs around the house but Oh no.....................He just has to have a go.
Help me people of the world..........................How do I get him to stop making my walls look like a dart board with his hammer and nails. I've asked kindly but he looks so hurt and kind of wounded.
Any advice would be greatly accepted.
Love Me

I've linked this post up with....
Mine is a DIY eejit too. Our bathroom looks like something from a war zone and there is not one set of straight shelves in the entire house. Solidarity from me.

Its so frustrating isn't it. I try to be patient but am loosing it fast. xx
DeleteAt least my other half admits he's no good at it. I got so fed up with the swearing that comes from any room he's attempting DIY in that I banned him from doing any. Didn't stop him buying a workbench 2 years ago (which hasn't come out of the box).
ReplyDeleteI needed some holes drilled in my walls this week - and one of the stay at home dads at school did it for me whilst I looked after his daughter.
Oooooo , now that's what I need. A secret man to come in and do all the jobs whilst OH is at work...Either that or I need to go on a DIY course xx
DeleteI am now concerned that my hubbie is leading a double life as yours too! The holes he makes to put up a picture drive me mad. Apparently we have the wrong type of walls!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, how funny. I think there must be more men out there than I thought that cant do DIY. xx
DeleteNo advice, unfortunately, but this made me laugh! And I think maybe you and Louise are both married to Daddy Pig?!
ReplyDeleteI think you might be right Sarah xx
DeleteMy hubby is just the same. He's a mechanic so that's very handy but as far as DIY is concerned he has all the tools but not much idea. He's getting better with practise but I've had to suffer many a wonky curtain rail and random holes in the walls... Great post x
ReplyDeleteI think the world must be filled with wonky curtain poles xx
DeleteHow about a shed?! He could 'do' DIY projects only suitable for the shed....my husband hates DIY so it's usually me who does everything, badly.
ReplyDeleteI would put him in the shed but I would then worry that he might do something to that too xxx
DeletePerhaps subtly pop this post under his nose?! My hubby can do it, just doesn't want to....perhaps if we could merge the two, we would both be happy! x
ReplyDeleteNow that would be an interesting idea xxxx
DeleteI wait till Ollie is out and do the DIY myself ... much less stress :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with #PoCoLo
Think I might have to take a DIY course on the quiet xx
